Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born and raised in Byron Bay. I grew up skateboarding, listening to music and going to the beach.
I studied a bachelor of audio engineering at the SAE Institute for 2 years.
When did you start getting into music?
I think ever since I got my hands on an iPod.
I was about 9 years old and listened to lots of hip hop - 50 cent, 2pac, Biggy, Eminem, Dr. Dre.
I first started playing guitar around 11years old and had about 10 lessons and then my teacher moved to a different area, so I just ended up learning lots of songs online through guitar tabs.
What type of genre do you usually stick you?
My genre I have been creating is definitely funk orientated and I have been adding in splashes of disco and soul into lots of my songs. Lots of the music I have been creating is definitely trying to create a fun happy vibe that people can enjoy and dance to.
I also have always stuck to hip hop, reggae and fun dance music throughout my life though so anything could happen.
"SUMMER" by KABIR
How have you learnt your skills?
So, as I said I had the 10 or so lessons on guitar which made me continue to learn about lots of guitar through the internet, via youtube and guitar tab websites. So it is kind of like self taught but with the help of the internet.
Most of my musical skills actually come from practicing things that are available on youtube.
What inspired you to make this song?
This song was actually the first chords I ever wrote of my own song and was inspired by lots of funk and disco artists. It was pretty much my first venture into creating a song after just learning funk strumming, scales and chord types.
Is that what the song is about?
So, The song is basically about my experiences of going to the beach in Byron Bay so frequently and my habits and feelings when I go there.
What do you want people to know about you most listening to this song?
I really really really enjoy going to the beach.
How do you want people to feel when listening to this song?
The song ‘Summer’ was created with the intention of making people happy and for people to dance along to. I want people to get a feeling of enjoyment that I get from going to the beach having a swim and just vibing out in the water.
How long did it take you to create this song?
So the actually instruments of the songs were very quick maybe like a week.
But as this was the first song. I was only just learning to sing this whole year pretty much and it took maybe 7 months for me to become happy with the final result of me singing.
Did anyone help you create it? Or did you produce/play the instruments/sing through the whole song?
I played the Bass, Electric guitar, and piano.
I sung all the vocal parts
I also recorded, mixed and mastered the song
I had some help from friends in guiding me how i should sing and how to get the vibe into the song.
Who made the cover?
I made the cover art too.
How long did it take you to create it?
The cover art took about 2 weeks as this was also a venture into design from youtube.
I WANT PEOPLE TO GET A FEELING OF ENJOYMENT THAT I GET FROM GOING TO THE BEACH, HAVING A SWIM AND JUST VIBING OUT IN THE WATER.
What has this experience taught you most?
Writing songs and Singing can be difficult when first learning but once you get the hang of it is definitely worth it.
Is there anything you’d do differently next time?
I would definitely recommend getting lots of singing lessons or a producer to help guide you along the way of creating a song as it would speed up the process of writing and recording a song.
Where can people listen to the song?
The song is going to be on all platforms Spotify, Youtube, iTunes, Soundcloud, triple j unearthed you think of it- it’s probably there :)
